A HOLISTIC APPROACH TO MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLNESS

A variety of challenges show up for us in both our personal and professional life journeys.

Using a holistic approach to mental health and wellness, I offer ways to actively address and cope with those challenges by modifying one’s thinking, one's responses and developing skills to persevere and gain a better understanding of the situations we find ourselves in. I believe in the interconnectedness between our mind, body and spirit and provide a compassionate and caring therapeutic approach that helps you to examine your emotional, physical and/or spiritual life. I use cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, meditation, and imagery in my work with children, adolescents and adults and tailor my approach based on individual needs.

My work is collaborative and goal oriented.

ABOUT

Laura Headshot.JPG

I am a licensed clinical social worker with over 15 years in the field.  I received my Bachelors degree in Philosophy from Colby College in 1999 and my Masters in Social Work from Fordham University in 2004.  I also completed a 200 hour level yoga teacher certification from Kripalu Center for Health and Wellness as well as a Karma Kids yoga teacher training and a degree in Massage Therapy from the Swedish Institute in New York City.  I have received specialized training in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and am currently working on completing certifications in Mind Body Integrative Therapy and Child and Adolescent Mental Health.  I have worked in a variety of settings during the course of my career including, schools, hospitals and non profits while working with people from diverse backgrounds and abilities.  Some of the issues I've addressed include: anxiety, depression, life transitions, health issues, developmental disabilities and social skills.  It’s been an honor for me to meet and connect with so many people in my life and to be a source of support.

Apart from work, I am a wife and mother of two children, a sister and a daughter.

I love to write and read poetry, travel and keep myself moving.

I've discovered the importance of finding stillness in this busy world

through meditation and yoga practices as well as spending time in nature whenever I can.

ABOUT

“Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,

the world offers itself to your imagination,

calls to you like the wild geese,

harsh and exciting –

over and over announcing your place

in the family of things.”
